Speaker Spotlight: Dr Pete Phillips

Dr Pete Phillips is Research Fellow in Digital Theology at Durham University & Head of Digital Theology at Premier Media in London.

Why are you passionate about digital?

I’m excited to see how the church can make use of digital technology to share the good news, to promote better ways of living in God’s world and to reach out to the lonely. I think digital is a wonderful opportunity for mission and evangelism both in terms of what we say but also in what how we speak and act online.

Name a hero of yours and why.

Any Christian techie who has to put up with not really been seen as a member of the ministry team but who is given massive responsibility for all the technology, expected to make it work, and to look good. These people are key communicators within the church, ministers of bits and pixels, and should be afforded the status of those God called to build the technology of the Temple!

What can people expect from your session?

An exploration of how digital devices can be used within our lives to bring us closer to God, closer to one another, closer to ourselves. In what ways can we use devices to improve our spirituality rather than be distracted all the time.

What most excites you about #PremDAC19?

Meeting all the wonderful people who come along to the conference. Come and say hello at the Centre for Digital Theology strand everyone!
